If you are looking for a portable wireless keyboard that can connect to multiple devices and offer a comfortable typing experience, you might want to consider the Logitech K380 keyboard. This keyboard is compact, lightweight, and versatile, and it can work with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, and even Apple TV. In this blog post, we will review the features, benefits, and drawbacks of the Logitech K380 keyboard.
Features
The Logitech K380 keyboard has several features that make it stand out from other wireless keyboards. Here are some of them:
- Multi-device connectivity: The keyboard can pair with up to three Bluetooth devices at once with the simple touch of an Easy-Switch button. You can easily switch between your laptop, tablet, smartphone, or TV with a single tap. And the pairing is quick with just a press of a button.
- Small and portable: The keyboard has a minimalist design that takes up less space in your bag or on your desk. It weighs only 423 grams and measures 279 x 124 x 16 mm. Even though the keyboard is portable it has strength and weight to it which places it firmly on the desk without any movement. The body has very little to no flex which really talks about the quality and gives reassurance to carry it anywhere and not worry. Personally I have carried it in my backpack with many things and there is no worry at all. The on/off toggle is on the side so the accidental press is absent which was a priority to me as I have experience with my laptop power switch.
- Extended battery life: The keyboard runs on two AAA alkaline batteries that can last up to two years depending on use. You don’t have to worry about replacing batteries frequently or running out of power during your work.
- Type on anything: The keyboard automatically adapts to your device and operating system and maps keys accordingly. It gives you familiar shortcuts and functions for Windows®, macOS®, iPadOS®, Chrome OS™ Android™ iOS®, and Apple TV®. You can enjoy desktop typing on any device that supports an external keyboard via Bluetooth®. There is also a companion app which helps to customize the keys and some shortcuts.
- Comfortable laptop-style typing: The keyboard has low-profile scissor keys that offer a fluid, quiet, and familiar typing experience. The keys have a round shape that fits your fingertips well. The extra-small footprint also allows you to place your mouse closer for less arm reaching and better body posture. The keyboard is a perfect fit for me as my hands are not too large. This will be a perfect fit for small to medium-sized hands person. For context, the tablet I use for this keyboard is a 11-inch one and it fits perfectly on a 13-inch laptop. Even large hands person can use this keyboard but with a little getting used to. If you are used to typing on a laptop keyboard there is no learning curve apart from the round keys unlike the boxed ones on most devices.
Benefits
The Logitech K380 keyboard has many benefits for users who need a wireless keyboard that can work with different devices and platforms. Here are some of them:
- Convenience: You can use one keyboard for all your devices without having to plug in cables or dongles. You can also switch between devices quickly without having to re-pair them every time. This saves you time and hassle when working on multiple tasks or projects across different screens. I have to usually switch between my work laptop and my personal tablet or laptop and this makes it perfect with three devices quick switching.
- Portability: You can take the keyboard anywhere you go thanks to its small size and design. You can use it at home, at work, at a cafe, or on a trip. You don’t need a separate stand or case for your tablet or phone as you can place them directly on the desk or on your lap while typing. The lap posture is a little uncomfortable for me apart from a laptop as the keyboard is not attached to the screen. I personally have worked in cafes, planes, and even on trains (work from home perks). I can assure you the portability and vesitality of this keyboard will not let you go back to any other keybord
- Productivity: You can type faster and more accurately with the keyboard than with an on-screen touchpad or virtual keyboard. You can also access more functions and shortcuts with dedicated keys for different operating systems. You can work more efficiently and comfortably with any device you choose. The shortcuts are also customizable with the companion software. It comes with some default shortcuts which works best with android and iOS. The default functionality for the functions keys is the secondary shortcuts and this can be reversed with the app although not for all devices.
Drawbacks
The Logitech K380 keyboard is not perfect though. It has some drawbacks that might affect some users’ preferences or needs. Here are some of them:
- No backlighting: The keyboard does not have backlighting for its keys which might make it hard to see them in low-light conditions. If you often work in dark environments or at night you might want a keyboard with illuminated keys instead. Although this was not a huge factor for me, I miss it in a few use cases.
- No numeric keypad: The keyboard does not have a numeric keypad which might be inconvenient for some users who need to enter numbers frequently or do calculations. If you often work with spreadsheets or data entry you might want a full-sized keyboard with a numpad instead. I miss my numpad but I do not have the budget for it. I have my full keyboard which I can hit hard while kicking in those numbers angrily. This is my dear blog typing machine for the speed of scissor keys.
- No palm rest: The keyboard does not have a palm rest which might cause some discomfort for some users who type for long hours. If you prefer more support for your wrists while typing you might want a larger ergonomic keyboard instead or use a larger desk and run through your typing marathon.
Conclusion: Get this keyboard if you want quality, portablity and multidevice support. It is good for the long typing marathon while you miss the office keyboard numpad. Yes the only thing I miss is the numpad and backlight but only a few times. Otherwise this is a perfect keyboard if you are a traveller and need a portable keyboard to free yourself from the shackles of those wires.
